my fear of silent night ...
well, i couldn't sleep again.
this is the 3rd night consecutively that happened to me.
i swear man, i tried to sleep as early as i could but it's tough.
it's almost a routine:
decided to sleep early
-> off the lights -> toss and turn -> up again and turn to tv/naruto
-> eyes tired, so decided to sleep -> toss and turn -> tv/naruto ->
back to bed -> toss and turn -> tv .... arghhh!!!!!!!!!!!
and when the night is so still and quiet, i would get paranoid whenever i hear sounds.
or whenever i accidentally looked out from my kitchen/room window towards the back of my house, i would get scared. but this time, i wasn't as scared like the past, cause i think i'm quite over that incident.
nope, i'm not afraid of ghost and it has nothing to do with it.
it's just that few years ago (year 2002 in fact), around the month of june-july, i was burning the midnight oil to prepare for my economics exam.
thus, i took a break around 2am to wash my face in my washroom. but during that period of time, i heard something outside. i was curious on what it was, and i thought that it came from the road outside, as my room was on the second floor. but seeing how busybody/curious/nosy i am, i decided to check out what it was.
i off my lights, closed the door, and fully intended to climb on top of the rack to see what it was through the small window that was situated above my height. but before i could even walked over to the rack, a hand grabbed one of the window pane. i was so shocked, i was stoned for a while. after a few seconds lagged, i screamed. screamed loud enough to wake my neighbours up. i was scared because my room window that was next to him was open, and i didn't lock the pane with the lock (i was hoping that he wouldn't notice it).
i ran to my parents room and woke my parents up. my dad took a metal rod, and he wanted to check and see if the thief got in or not, but my mom wouldn't allow him too (due to age factor). so we locked ourselves to the room with absolutely no phone around us (yes, how smart can i get. i Forgot to take my phone along with me). and get this, despite my scream being so darn bloody loud; or my mom who actually shouted for help; this is how the typical malaysians react: they just don't bloody care.
no one came to our aid.
no one bothered to call the police.
at first, i thought maybe my neighbours are a bunch of heavy sleepers that they just couldn't hear it clearly. but apparently the next morning, my neighbour who heard the scream said that she saw a suspicious looking guy with a mask wandering outside the back of my house, but she just shrugged it off; my neighbour behind me did hear my scream but they didn't do anything about it; my neighbour who live beside me just locked her room as soon as she hear something from my side. however, there is one neighbour who came out from his house to see what was wrong. but did he ring the bell to confirm it? nope.
i was pissed.
i understand if they wanted to protect their family and all, but they didn't even call the police for us?
but the police was worse:
not only because they wouldn't do anything about it. but they came up with some bull and crap saying that the illegal immigrants are great at charming dogs, which explained why mine didn't bark. and told my dad to open and manage a rukun tetangga instead of relying on the police force.
whatever man ... whatever ...
oh well, i'm over that incident already. hehe ..
but it took me 3 months to get rid of my paranoia.
whenever i heard sounds from outside OR inside, i frozed for a while; or whenever i heard something from the attic in the middle of the night, i would wake my dad up.
but of course, it also took me another 3 months to realize how silly i was.
it's just a thief afterall, not robbers.
